Storage Tips

  1. Always use a good quality lock on your door. A Vineyard Self Storage sells high-quality disc locks.
  2. Please be careful what you store.
    • WARNING: Do not store anything combustible (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.)
    • Do not store perishable items (flour, potatoes, candy, etc.).
  3. Plan and manage your space.
    • Create an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
    • Plan your storage space. Place those items that you need to access often in the front. Allow for walkways.
    • Furniture drawers can be utilized as storage spaces for pictures, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in table cloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.
    • Store furniture carefully.
    • Place your furniture on 2″x4″ boards or pallets.

    • Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard, marked Fragile and stacked on end.
    • Tables with removable legs should be “broken down” to save floor space.
    • Sofas and love-seats can be stored on end to save floor space.
    • Always place protective covers over items.
    • It is best to store mattresses flat on top of a level stack of boxes or furniture. Remember: We sell mattress covers.
    • Make sure surfaces of antiques and other wood furnishings are treated before storing.
  5. Other things to remember.
    • Larger appliances make excellent “packing cases” for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.
    • Mothball use will help prevent insect and rodent intrusions.
    • Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trashcans.
